The Paranormal, Ghosts and Haunting

The Paranormal. For most of us that means ghosts and haunting! Many people seem to have at some time seen a ghost – even those who would normally tend to dismiss them as ‘nonsense’.

There is a rational explanation for most ghostly sightings. Therefore it’s important to consider the following aspects…

Usually, ghostly visions etc are experienced mainly at night, when things are generally much quieter, so our senses are naturally more attuned to unusual sounds and indeed, sights.

Remember that rumbling and creaking noises in the night can often be central heating pipes contracting as they cool.

Please remember that also the mind can play tricks on us. We are very suggestible – we’ve been told that an ancient castle is haunted so we are more likely to hear things if we spend a night alone there!

But the Paranormal does exist, so if you want to invest igate a manifestation, here are some steps to take.

Try to rule out human activity
To rule out actual human/animal movements just sprinkle some flour on the floor or a piece of cotton across a doorway. If it’s human or animal then there will be paw marks or the cotton will be broken. Likewise place flour or similar beneath ornaments.

Look for a drop in temperature at the time of genuine ghostly visitations, so use a thermometer to measure the temperature.
Also check that the building in question has not got a history of settlement or subsidence.

Ghost and paranormal investigation takes time and a lot of patience, and you’ll have to keep accurate and notes of times, dates, circumstances etc plus any other happenings, to see if a pattern has developed or is developing. Ask local people if they’ve experienced any ghostly manifestations.

Probably 99% of ‘hauntings’ have a rational explanation…but what about the remaining 1%!?
